Which permit type is right for you?
Turkey offers several residence permit categories. Most new expats apply for the short-term permit.
Short-Term Residence Permit
For property owners, people with financial means, students, and those doing business research. The most common permit type for new expats.

Long-Term Residence Permit

Application process

Enter Turkey
Arrive on a tourist visa or visa-free. Most nationalities get 90 days to apply from within the country.
Choose Permit Type

Register Address
Secure accommodation and register your address. Your official address is required for the application.
Get Health Insurance
Obtain a Turkish-compliant private health insurance policy. This is mandatory for most permit types.
Apply Online (e-ikamet)
Submit your application via the official e-ikamet portal and pay the application fee.
Book Appointment
Schedule your in-person appointment at your local Yabancılar Şubesi (Foreigners Department).
Attend Appointment
Attend with all original documents. The officer will review your file and take biometric data.
Receive ikamet Card
Your residence permit card (ikamet kartı) is mailed to your registered address within 2–8 weeks.
