Adequate for everyday care — but know the limitations before you move.
Quick Answer
Is healthcare good in Fethiye?
Adequate for routine care. Fethiye has a state hospital and 2–3 private clinics with English-speaking staff. For serious or complex conditions, you will need to travel to Antalya (2 hrs east) or Marmaris (1.5 hrs west). Medical evacuation insurance is strongly recommended for all Fethiye residents.
Fethiye State Hospital (Fethiye Devlet Hastanesi)
Public
Emergency, general medicine, basic surgery. Can be busy; limited English.
Özel Fethiye Hospital
Private
English-speaking staff, faster service. Accepts international insurance.
LIV Hospital Fethiye (seasonal)
Private
Operating in summer; good for routine care.
Dentists & dental clinics
Mixed
Excellent value. Dental treatment 50–70% cheaper than UK.
Pharmacies (eczane)
Pharmacy
Well-stocked. Many medications available OTC that require prescription in Europe.
What Fethiye cannot reliably provide:
For any of these, you will travel to Antalya or potentially Istanbul. This is normal and manageable — but it requires planning, insurance, and awareness.
This is not optional for Fethiye residents
Fethiye is geographically isolated from major medical centres. If you suffer a serious event — cardiac emergency, stroke, major trauma — the nearest fully-equipped hospital is 90–120 minutes away by road. In a time-critical emergency, that distance matters.
Medical evacuation insurance covers air ambulance transport to Antalya, Izmir, or even back to your home country if required. A single air ambulance flight can cost €15,000–50,000 without insurance.
Private health insurance is required for your Turkish residence permit. In Fethiye, most expats choose a Turkish private insurer for permit compliance plus an international top-up for evacuation and repatriation cover.
