One of Turkey's most affordable coastal towns — popular with British retirees and digital nomads alike.
Quick Answer
How much does it cost to live in Fethiye?
From €600/month. Fethiye is one of Turkey's cheapest coastal towns. A 1-bedroom apartment runs €180–350/month, and many British retirees on fixed pensions live comfortably here. A couple can live well on €900–1,200/month.
Costs shown are monthly estimates for a single person. Couples add roughly 30–50% for accommodation-related costs.
| Area | Cost | Vibe | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Çalış Beach | €€ | Established British expat hub | Most English-speaking community |
| Fethiye Town | €€ | Central, walkable, mixed | Best access to markets & services |
| Ovacık | €€ | Hillside village, quiet | Slightly slower internet, peaceful |
| Hisarönü | € | Budget-friendly resort | Very affordable, lively summer season |
| Göcek | €€€ | Upscale sailing marina | Most expensive; beautiful harbour |
Fethiye offers genuinely affordable accommodation. In Hisarönü and inland areas, a furnished 1BR apartment starts around €150–180/month off-season. In Çalış Beach — the hub of the British expat community — expect €220–350/month for a well-maintained flat with sea views.
Göcek, the upscale marina village, commands a significant premium: €350–600/month for a 1BR and €600–1,200/month for larger waterfront properties.
Seasonality note
July–August prices spike 20–30% in tourist-facing areas like Çalış Beach, Ölüdeniz, and Hisarönü. If you're signing a 12-month contract, negotiate a flat rate. If renting short-term in summer, budget upward accordingly.
Turkish supermarkets (BIM, A101, Migros) are very affordable. A weekly shop for one person costs €25–45. Fresh fruit and vegetables from the twice-weekly Fethiye market are excellent value — fill a bag for a few euros.
Electricity is the main cost. Air conditioning in summer and electric heating in winter can push bills to €80–120/month in extreme months. Many apartments include gas central heating which is cheaper. Water bills are minimal.
Internet: €15–25/month for 60–100 Mbps fibre. See our Fethiye internet guide for provider details.
Private health insurance is required for your residence permit. Costs range from €35/month for a basic local policy (under-45) to €80–120/month for comprehensive international coverage. See our Turkey health insurance guide for full provider details.
Medical evacuation insurance is strongly recommended for Fethiye residents. The nearest major hospital is in Antalya (2 hrs) or Marmaris. For serious conditions, evacuation cover can be lifesaving.
