Which city for you?
Istanbul has Turkey's only major international job market, startup ecosystem, and multinational business presence. If your career or business requires access to global networks, Istanbul is the only realistic choice.
For retirement, Antalya is superior in almost every way: warmer climate, lower costs, less stress, and a massive established expat community that has been there for decades. Living on a fixed income is dramatically easier.
Istanbul has far more international school options, a larger expat parent network, and better specialist children's healthcare. The downsides are cost and commute.
Antalya delivers excellent internet, lower costs, better weather, and an improving coworking scene — all at 35–40% less cost. For remote workers who don't need physical office access, Antalya wins clearly.
Istanbul offers world-class restaurants, private hospitals, international schools, and a sophisticated social scene that Antalya simply cannot match.
If cost is the primary driver, Antalya wins outright — and nearby Alanya or Fethiye are even cheaper.
The cost difference
For an equivalent comfortable lifestyle, Istanbul costs approximately 35–45% more than Antalya. For a single person, that difference adds up to €3,000–5,000 per year.
The main drivers are rent (Istanbul is 50–60% more expensive for equivalent apartments) and dining/entertainment.
