Living in Turkey — Utilities
Setting up utilities in Turkey as a foreigner is straightforward once you know the regional providers and what documents to bring. Most landlords pass utilities through in the rent — but if you need accounts in your own name, this guide walks you through electricity, natural gas, internet, and building fees (aidat) step by step.
Quick Answer
Most Turkish landlords keep utilities in their own name and charge you through rent. If you need utilities in your name: bring your passport, tax number (vergi numarası), rental contract, and ikamet card to the regional provider's office. Electricity transfers take 1 day; internet installation takes 3–7 days. Monthly costs: electricity ₺500–1,500, gas ₺400–2,000 in winter, internet ₺500–900. Aidat (building fee) covers communal costs and is separate from individual utilities.
